Getting Found

Being findable is not a marketing skill. It is a business one.

How do brides actually find a bridal hair and makeup artist?

In three places: Google, Instagram search, and wedding directories. Instagram rewards the least effort for the most return, because the highest-value fixes — the name field, the bio, your captions — take twenty minutes and most artists have never touched them. Google is second and slower. Directories are last, because they cost money and you should know your own numbers first.

Enquiries

What happens between her first message and a signed contract.

What should I send a bride in the first 24 hours after she inquires?

Answer the question she actually asked, quickly, and invite her to the next step — a consultation or a short form — rather than leading with a number. Speed matters more than polish: a considered reply the same day beats a beautiful one three days later. A price sent cold, before she understands what she is buying, can only be compared against another price.

Why do brides go quiet after I send the price?

It is rarely the number. It is the number arriving on its own, with nothing around it. A price sent alone can only be compared to another price. A price sent inside what she is actually getting — the trial, the timeline, the hours, the fact that you stay through the first look — becomes a decision rather than a comparison.

What should I say when a bride asks for a discount?

You don't. The price is the price, and saying so kindly is part of the service. A discount teaches her — and teaches you — that the original number was never quite real, and every bride who books after her inherits that. If your price does not fit her budget, she is not your bride, and telling her so early is kinder than negotiating your way to resenting the booking.

Pricing

The heaviest pillar, because it is where most of the money is lost.

Pricing

What should I charge as a bridal hair and makeup artist?

Build the price from your own hours and costs, not from the artist down the coast whose numbers you cannot see. Count the trial, the travel, the timeline you build, the messages across the months, the assistant if you need one, and the tax. What another artist charges tells you nothing about what her business needs.

How many hours does one wedding booking really take?

Far more than the wedding morning, which is the short part. The trial, the travel to and from both, the timeline you build with the planner, the messages across the months, the invoicing and the follow-up all belong to that booking. Artists who price the morning alone are quietly working the rest for free.

Pricing

How do I raise my bridal prices?

Raise for new enquiries and honour what you have already quoted. There is no announcement to make — the new price is simply the price when the next bride asks. Artists who wait for permission to raise prices generally wait a season too long.

Pricing

Can I be fully booked and still not profitable?

Yes, and it is common. A full calendar measures demand, not profit. If the price does not cover the real hours, the travel, the assistant and the tax, then every additional booking makes the year busier and no better. Profit per booking is the number that matters, not how few dates are left.

Policies

Decisions made once, in advance, so they are never negotiated at the worst moment.

Policies

How should I set minimums, travel fees and deposits?

Decide them before the season and write them down, so they are policy rather than something negotiated per bride at the moment you least want to negotiate. A policy applied to everyone is easy to hold. A policy invented mid-conversation is an opening offer.

Are you profitable — or just popular?

A full calendar and a profitable business are not the same thing. Fifteen questions, five minutes, and you will know which one you are actually running.
